Toni Heidelberg Gerber Inducted 2022 - Class of 1968
Toni (Heidelberg) Gerber is a 1968 graduate of Woodward. She received her Bachelor’s in Science(1972) and Master’s in Ed. Administration and Supervision from The University of Toledo(1984).Toni grew up on Ketcham street two blocks away from Woodward.
Toni’s best friends at Woodward were Sherri (Petree)Fischer, Nan (Gunckel) Ferch, Sherry (Hobbs) Fitzpatrick, Carol (Duszynski) Farmer, and Shelley (Searle) Gulvas.
Some of Toni’s favorite memories are going to football and basketball games with her friends. After basketball games they would walk to Angelo’s restaurant for “the best pepperoni pizza ever.” Toni says that her experiences and education at Hamilton and Woodward helped her evolve into the person she’s become.
Toni started her teaching career in 1972. After serving as principal at Sylvania’s Central/Central Trail
Elementary for 31 years, Toni retired. Even after retirement Toni has continued to work in the educational field.
Since 2013 Toni has served on the Autism Models School Board in Toledo, Ohio as Vice President. The Autism Model School mission is “The school, in partnership with parents and the community, will provide a nurturing environment, and develop the full potential of differently-abled students within the Autistic Spectrum Disorders using a multidisciplinary approach addressing individual needs”.
Toni’s hobbies include cooking --especially when her family members join her for Sunday dinners. You may often find her and husband Ken walking in Toledo’s Metroparks. Toni likes to travel. New York City is a favorite destination of hers with its art, music, and history. A favorite beach destination for her is Captiva Island on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Toni and Ken (also a 1968 graduate of Woodward High School), celebrated their 49th anniversary in March 2022. They have two daughters: Kristy (Clay), Melissa (David), and four grandchildren Logan, Claire, Lilah and Grace.
