Demicha Denise Rankin, MD Inducted 2024 - Class of 1996
Her favorite teachers were Mrs. Szelagowski, Mrs. Attie, and Mrs. Schick. She recalls that activities (dance team and clubs) and teachers (including her 6th grade teacher, Mr. Avearn Ford) helped instill her self-confidence. A highlight of hers was to be voted Homecoming Queen. Her close friends were LaShonda Jones, Janeen Wiggins, Sadie Wilson, Saneisha Shumpert, and Tonya Harris. After being a Polar Bear, she became a Buckeye and earned her degrees from OSU: BS and MD. Board Certified, Demicha is an Associate Dean for Admission, Professor of Anesthesiology, and Vice Chair for Diversity Equity and Inclusion in Anesthesiology at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Rankin served on several committees, she also mentored students for years, gave multiple lectures and workshops, has been an instructor in her field, has written many articles, abstracts, and presentations, has participated in research protocols, has received numerous awards and recognitions, has given speeches locally, regionally, and so much more.
She drove up to Toledo to be a part of Woodward’s 100+ Celebration last fall and had the opportunity to see several of her teachers! When she has free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, playing tennis and attending her children’s sporting events. Debra Scott is her mother. Demicha is married to Chay Rankin and they have two daughters: Chayla and Chloe.
